Oasis of the Seas Best & Worst Staterooms: Summary

Best Cabins on the Oasis of the Seas are on Decks 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 17.

Cabins to be wary of on the Oasis of the Seas are on Decks 3 and 14.

If you are an avid Royal Caribbean fan but have never been on the Oasis of the Seas, be forewarned that, in addition to no smoking in any stateroom, there is also no smoking on private balconies. A fee of $250.00 will be charged for smoking in these areas.

Deck-by-Deck Breakdown of the Best and Worst Cabins on the Oasis of the Seas

Deck 3

***CruiseAdvice.org Warning ***

Some cabins on this deck with potential problems.

Deck 3 of the Oasis of the Seas is just beneath Deck 4 public areas which include the jazz club, a dance club, a comedy club, and the casino. While it’s possible to find a more quiet cabin on this deck, it’s going to take some thoughtful strategy.

Forward on Deck 3 of the Oasis of the Seas, Ocean View Staterooms 3178-3192 port side and 3578-3590 starboard are under the clubs and lounge area. This will likely mean after hours noise factors. If you are light sleeper, you may prefer to find a cabin elsewhere on this deck, bring earplugs, or invest in a wave machine (a sound device available at a specialty retailer like Brookstone — produces pleasant sounds that can wipe out the unpleasant sounds).

On a more positive note, cabins 3178-3192 and 3578-3590 are closest to the conference center; this would be quite handy if you are presenting or attending meetings.

Ocean View Staterooms 3194-3224 and 3594-3624 are across the hall from Studio B and the Ice Rink. This might cause some noise issues while these facilities are open, but it is not likely much of an after hours concern.

The rest of the cabins on Deck 3 of the Oasis of the Seas (3226-3256 port side, interior cabins 3800-3864, and 3626-3656 starboard) are underneath the casino where there will likely be after hours noise. We suggest finding a cabin in another area, bringing earplugs, or investing in a wave machine.

Interior cabin 3862 is oddly shaped and slightly more spacious.

Exterior cabins 3178 and 3578, and inside cabins 3852 and 3856 are wheelchair accessible.

We are not suggesting the cabins on this deck should be completely avoided, but some of the worst cabins aboard the Oasis of the Seas are on Deck 3 because of the public areas above.

Deck 6

Cabins on Deck 6 on the Oasis of the Seas are close to a wide variety of ship venues. Forward, you could choose to reserve a cabin close to the spa fitness center. Aft cabins are close to the Boardwalk, where there are family friendly venues such as the ice cream parlor and Pets at Sea (where parents can build a toy pet with their children). Casual restaurants, such as Johnny Rockets and the Seafood Shack, are also in this vicinity. However, some cabins might have noise issues because a main drag of the Royal Caribbean is also underfoot.

Forward on Deck 6, Balcony Staterooms 6130-6160 port side and 6530-6560 starboard, and Interior Staterooms 6131-6153 and 6535-6553 are over the Opal Theater on the Oasis of the Seas. Noise could be of concern when there are rehearsals and performances; this could be more severe in the inside cabins at those times.

Regarding Balcony Staterooms 6136- 6224 port side and 6536- 6624 starboard, lifeboats will obstruct balcony views looking down. However, the views of the horizon are not obstructed.

The small spaces between Balcony Staterooms 6138 and 6142, and between 6538 and 6542, are for air conditioning units.

Interior cabins 6143, 6147, 6149, and 6153 are larger than average and are wheelchair accessible.

Exterior cabins 6226, 6230, 6232, 6236, 6626, 6630, 6632, and 6636 are larger and are wheelchair accessible.

Staterooms 6172-6192 and 6572-6592 are situated over venues such as bars and karaoke, which could be a bit noisy after hours.

On Deck 6 of the Oasis of the Seas, staterooms 6268-6320 and 6668-6720 are over the top tier of the main dining room of the Oasis of the Seas. Noise could be a concern when this venue is open, and when staff are working.

Port side and starboard, all of the exterior staterooms and suites have private balconies on Deck 6 of the Oasis of the Seas.

For aft Balcony Staterooms 6282- 6328 port side and 6682- 6728 starboard, lifeboats will obstruct balcony views looking down. However, the views of the horizon are not obstructed.

Deck 7

***CruiseAdvice.org Favorite Deck ***

Several cabins are highly rated by our cruise experts!

The Oasis of the Seas Deck 7 staterooms for the most part have cabins directly above and beneath, and this can buffer some of the noise from public areas on this ship. All exterior staterooms directly port side and starboard have balconies, and on Deck 7 the variety of staterooms expands to include Family Ocean View Staterooms.

Aft on Deck 7 of the Oasis of the Seas, Family Ocean View Staterooms 7330 and 7730 are the most spacious stateroom accommodations on this deck, and also have over-sized balconies. On the Oasis of the Seas, family cabins sell out very quickly because of the extra space, clever floor plan, and limited supply. We suggest you book one as early as possible if a family stateroom is your preference.

Forward, there are eleven ocean view staterooms (7100-7108 and 7500-7510) have forward facing views that include a forward deck area.

If you’re looking for an interior cabin, we suggest 7101-7153 and 7400-7553. These are all located forward on the Oasis of the Seas Deck 7, and do have cabins above and beneath that makes them more quiet than other inside cabins available.

Related: Oasis of the Seas Deck 7 Deck Plan (clickable deck layout to view individual cabin pictures and amenity lists)

Deck 8

***CruiseAdvice.org Favorite Deck ***

Several cabins are highly rated by our cruise experts!

The Oasis of the Seas’ cabins on Deck 8 are well situated because most staterooms will have cabins above and beneath to buffer noise from public areas. This deck also features a variety of staterooms and suites from which to choose.

Forward on Deck 8 of the Oasis of the Seas, Ocean View Staterooms 8100-8108 and 8500-8510 have forward facing views that include a deck.

Interior cabins 8439, 8441, 8443, 8445, and 8448 are right next to public bathrooms. We suggest finding a better situated interior cabin to avoid this noise issue.

Balcony Staterooms 8154- 8160 port side and 8554- 8560 starboard and Interior Staterooms 8153, 8446, 8448, 8450, 8452, 8454, and 8456 are nearby crew areas that have been noise sources.

Most exterior staterooms and suites directly port side and starboard have balconies on Deck 8 of the Oasis of the Seas.

Deck 8 on the Oasis of the Seas introduces the Boardwalk View Balcony Staterooms (8293-8329 and 8695-8729). Each of these interior cabins has a balcony overlooking the aft Boardwalk area. The only concern about these particular staterooms is the fact that there is little to buffer noise beneath you on Deck 7, so that could be an issue (but not likely an after hours concern). You can find the same accommodations on Decks 9 and 10 if you want to completely avoid any likelihood of additional noise. As mentioned, no smoking is permitted on these balconies and a $250.00 fee will be charged for any infraction.

With 823 sq. ft. of living space and 772 sq. ft. balconies, the Aqua Theater Suites 8330 and 8730 aft on Deck 8 are luxurious indeed! Of the Aqua Theater Suites available on the Oasis of the Seas, the Aqua Theater Suites on Deck 8 are the largest to be had. These two suites also command a fantastic view of the ocean!

Related: Oasis of the Seas Deck 8 Deck Plan (clickable deck layout to view individual cabin pictures and amenity lists)

Deck 9

***CruiseAdvice.org Favorite Deck ***

Several cabins are highly rated by our cruise experts!

On the Oasis of the Seas Deck 9, accommodations are similar to Deck 8 but include the introduction of Royal Family Suites, and the Central Park View Staterooms. Also, because most of these staterooms have cabins above and beneath, there’s going to be a bit more peace and quiet on this deck.

With 580 sq. footage of living space and 238 sq. ft. balconies, Royal Family Suites 9244 and 9644 are rivaled only in size by the Owner’s Suites and the Aqua Suites on Deck 9 of the Oasis of the Seas. On the Oasis of the Seas, these family cabins sell out very quickly because of the extra space and clever floor plan. We suggest you book one as early as possible if a family suite is your preference.

Forward, Ocean View Staterooms 9100-9108 and 9500-9510 have views that include the helipad.

Exterior staterooms 9162, 9166, 9170, and 9172 are larger than usual and are wheelchair accessible. Please note that there is a chair bed (rather than a sofa bed) in addition to the regular beds in each of these staterooms. Chair beds as a general rule are not recommended for adults.

Interior cabins 9175-9255 and 9577-9655 are Central Park View Staterooms on Deck 9 of the Oasis of the Seas. These feature bay windows overlooking Central Park. With 199 sq. ft., these staterooms are larger than any of the other balcony staterooms. One possible drawback is the fact that there are no cabins beneath to help buffer any extraneous noise. If that is a concern but you would like to book one of these cabins, we suggest locating one on Deck 10 or Deck 11 of the Oasis of the Seas. Past guest reviews indicate that the balconies for staterooms 9229 and 9629 are as much as 50% larger than standard!

Aft, Boardwalk View Staterooms with Balconies (9293-9329 and 9693-9729) do have the same accommodations above and beneath, and will likely be more quiet than those on Deck 8 as a result. No smoking is permitted on these balconies and a $250.00 fee will be charged for any infraction.

Aft, the most spacious accommodations and balcony on Deck 9 of the Oasis of the Seas are to be found in the Aqua Theater Suites (9330 and 9730). These suites also command a beautiful view of the ocean as well!

Related: Oasis of the Seas Deck 9 Deck Plan (clickable deck layout to view individual cabin pictures and amenity lists)

Deck 10

***CruiseAdvice.org Favorite Deck ***

Several cabins are highly rated by our cruise experts!

Deck 10 staterooms and suites on the Oasis of the Seas are also among the nicer choices because all of these have cabins above and beneath, and are thus more quiet. Central Park View Staterooms on this deck also feature balconies!

Forward Ocean View Staterooms 10100-10108 and 10500-10510 have views that include the helipad.

Exterior cabins 10162, 10166, 10170, and 10174 are larger, have more balcony space, and are wheelchair accessible. However, each of these staterooms has a chair bed (rather than a sofa bed) in addition to the regular beds. Chair beds are not recommended for adults.

Central Park View Staterooms with Balconies are 10177-10255 and 10577-10655. Past guests have stated that cabins 10229 and 10629 have much larger balconies than standard! No smoking is permitted on these balconies and a $250.00 fee will be charged for any infraction.

mid ship, Royal Family Suites 10244 and 10644 are among the most spacious accommodations on Deck 10 of the Oasis of the Seas. The Royal Family Suites sell out very quickly because of the extra space, clever floor plan, and limited supply. We suggest you book one as early as possible if a family suite is your preference.

Boardwalk View Staterooms with Balconies on Deck 10 of the Oasis of the Seas are 10293-10329 and 10693-10729. No smoking is permitted on these balconies and a $250.00 fee will be charged for any infraction.

Port side and starboard, almost all exterior staterooms and suites on Deck 10 of the Oasis of the Seas have balconies.

The most living space, the largest balcony, and the best aft view of the ocean will be from the Aqua Theater Suites (10330 and 10730) which are aft on Deck 10 of the Oasis of the Seas!

Related: Oasis of the Seas Deck 10 Deck Plan (clickable deck layout to view individual cabin pictures and amenity lists)

Deck 11

***CruiseAdvice.org Favorite Deck ***

Several cabins are highly rated by our cruise experts!

Oasis of the Seas Deck 11 does not feature Royal Family Suites or Aqua Theater Suites, but does have some unique amenities. There are more family staterooms are available on this deck, and the cabins above and beneath provide more peace and quiet.

Family Ocean View Staterooms with Balconies (11158, 11162, 11166, 11170, and 11172) have about 90 sq. ft. more living space than other staterooms on this deck. Of these, suite 11158 is larger and is wheelchair accessible on Deck 11 of the Oasis of the Seas. Family cabins sell out very quickly because of the extra space and clever floor plan. We suggest you book one as early as possible if a family suite is your preference.

Interior Family Staterooms boasting just about as much room as the Family Ocean View Staterooms are 11137, 11139, 11147, and 11149. Again, we advise that these are reserved very quickly, so please book a family cabin as early as you can if this is your preference.

Forward on Deck 11 of the Oasis of the Seas, ocean view staterooms 11102-11106 and 11502-11506 are larger than standard and will have a nice view of the ocean!

Exterior cabins 11158, 11162, 11166, 11170, and 11172 more spacious than standard, have slightly larger balconies, and are wheelchair accessible. Please note that the additional bedding in each of these staterooms is a chair bed (rather than a sofa bed). Chair beds are not recommended for adults.

Central Park View Staterooms with balconies are 11175-11255 and 11577-11655. Staterooms 11229 and 11629 have balconies that are much larger than standard. No smoking is permitted on these balconies and a $250.00 fee will be charged for any infraction.

Aft on Deck 11 of the Oasis of the Seas, Boardwalk View Staterooms with Balconies are 11293-11329 and 11693-11729. No smoking is permitted on these balconies and a $250.00 fee will be charged for any infraction.

Most exterior staterooms suites port side and starboard have balconies.

Aqua Theater Suites (11330 and 11730) each have ample living space and balconies with great aft views of the ocean. However, the ceilings in both are low due to duct work. People taller than 5’9″ should seek other suite accommodations.

Related: Oasis of the Seas Deck 11 Deck Plan (clickable deck layout to view individual cabin pictures and amenity lists)

Deck 12

***CruiseAdvice.org Favorite Deck ***

Several cabins are highly rated by our cruise experts!

Deck 12 is another great place for accommodations because there are cabins above and beneath most staterooms and suites.

Junior Suite 12636 and Ocean View Stateroom 12650 are next door to Royal Family Suites. Here, you will probably find superb service.

Staterooms 12629 and 12229, according to past guests, have balconies that are much larger than standard!

Balcony staterooms 12293-12329 and 12693-12729 are excellent choices for views of the Boardwalk!

Balcony Staterooms 12162, 12166, 12170, and 12172 are larger than standard, have slightly larger balconies, and are wheelchair accessible. Please note that the additional bedding in each of these staterooms is a chair bed (rather than a sofa bed). Chair beds are not recommended for adults.

Aqua Theater Suites (12330 and 12730) each have ample living space and balconies with great aft views of the ocean. However, the ceilings in both are low due to duct work. People taller than 5’9″ should seek other suite accommodations.

Related: Oasis of the Seas Deck 12 Deck Plan (clickable deck layout to view individual cabin pictures and amenity lists)

Deck 14

***CruiseAdvice.org Warning ***

Several cabins on this deck with potential problems.

On the Oasis of the Seas, the cabins on Deck 14 are under one of the busiest public decks on the Oasis of the Seas. There are likely noise issues from the pool areas, the teen center, the Oasis Dunes, and the Sports Court. While the forward section of this deck may be quite handy for families with small children, we do not recommend the accommodations on Deck 14 for light sleepers.

Forward on Deck 14 of the Oasis of the Seas, 14126- 14116 and 14526- 14516 are forward facing Ocean View Staterooms. Each should have great forward views that include the heli pad area.

Ultimate Panoramic Suites 14128 and 14528 each boast 914 sq. ft., and superb views from floor to ceiling windows!

Forward, Interior Staterooms 14121- 14521 are relatively new additions to the Oasis of the Seas. Please note, however, that these staterooms are beneath the Solarium area.

On Deck 14, exterior cabins 14132-14166 port side and 14532-14562 starboard are across the hall from youth activities areas, which include the nursery on the Oasis of the Seas. These would be fine staterooms for small families.

There are several wheelchair accessible cabins on Deck 14 of the Oasis of the Seas. These include exterior cabins 14166, 14168, 14170, and 14172, all of which are slightly larger with larger balconies. Boardwalk View Staterooms with Balconies 14297, 14299, 14301, and 14303 are wheelchair accessible. Central Park View Staterooms with Balconies 14251, 14253, 14651, and 14653 are also wheelchair accessible and are slightly larger than standard. Please note that the additional bedding in each of these staterooms is a chair bed (rather than a sofa bed). Chair beds are not recommended for adults.

Noise sensitive travelers may want to steer clear of exterior and interior cabins 14174-14254 port side and 14574-14654 starboard because these are under the pool area, and there could be after hours noises such as the scraping of deck chairs when staff are cleaning.

Guest reviews of cabins 14562 and 14564 indicate that there are noise issues in these cabins because these are located below the whirlpool.

While not directly beneath the teen disco, interior cabins 14293 and 14693 are close. You may want to consider an inside cabin elsewhere on Deck 14 of the Oasis of the Seas.

Boardwalk View Balcony Staterooms 14303 and 14301 are right beneath the zip line. Enough said.

Aqua Theater Suites (14330 and 14730) each have ample living space. However, the ceilings in both are low due to duct work. People taller than 5’9″ should seek other suite accommodations. The balconies for these suites are quite narrow.

Deck 17

***CruiseAdvice.org Favorite Deck ***

All of the suites are highly rated by our cruise experts!

The Oasis of the Seas Deck 17 is without question the most exclusive-suites only-upscale neighborhood. Located close to the chapel, the suites on this deck would be very convenient for wedding parties, and for the romantic at heart. Oasis of the Seas

Cruise ship

Oasis of the Seas is a cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean International. She is the first of her class, whose ships are the largest passenger ships in the world. Her hull was laid down in November 2007 and she was completed and delivered to Royal Caribbean in October 2009. At the time of construction, Oasis of the Seas set a new capacity record of carrying over 6,000 passengers.[9] The first of her class, she was joined by sister ships Allure of the Seas in December 2010, Harmony of the Seas in May 2016, Symphony of the Seas in April 2018, and Wonder of the Seas in March 2022. Oasis of the Seas conducts cruises of the Caribbean from her home port of PortMiami in Miami, Florida.

Oasis of the Seas surpassed the Freedom-class cruise ships (also owned by Royal Caribbean) to become the largest cruise ship in the world at that time.[10] She was herself surpassed by her sister ship Allure of the Seas, which is 50 millimetres (2.0 in) longer, although this may have been caused by ambient temperature differences at the times the measurements were made.[11] In May 2016, her second sister ship Harmony of the Seas became the new record holder with a length of 362.12 metres (1,188.1 ft),[12] and in March 2018, Symphony of the Seas, the fourth member of the Oasis class, became the new world’s largest cruise ship with a length of 361.011 m (1,184.42 ft) and a tonnage of 228,081 GT.

Design and description

The gross tonnage (GT) of Oasis of the Seas at launch was 225,282, but it was expanded to 226,838 GT when additional cabins were added to Deck 14 in 2019.[1][13] Her displacement—the actual mass of the vessel—is estimated at 100,000 metric tons (110,000 short tons), slightly less than that of an American Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.[14]

To keep the ship stable without increasing the draft excessively, the designers created a wide hull; 9.3 metres (31 ft) of the ship sits beneath the water, a small percentage of the ship’s overall height. Wide, shallow ships such as this tend to be “snappy”, meaning that they can snap back upright after a wave has passed, which can be uncomfortable. This effect, however, is mitigated by the vessel’s large size.[15] The cruise ship’s officers were pleased with the ship’s stability and performance during the transatlantic crossing, when the vessel, in order to allow finishing work to go on, slowed and changed course in the face of winds “almost up to hurricane force” and seas in excess of 12 metres (39 ft).[16][17]

One of the ship’s lifeboats

The ship’s power comes from six medium-speed, marine-diesel generating sets: three 16-cylinder Wärtsilä 16V46D common rail engines producing 18,860 kilowatts (25,290 hp) each and three similar 12-cylinder Wärtsilä 12V46D engines producing 13,860 kilowatts (18,590 hp) each. The fuel consumption of the main engines at full power is 1,377 US gallons (5,210 l; 1,147 imp gal) of fuel oil per engine per hour for the 16-cylinder engines and 1,033 US gallons (3,910 l; 860 imp gal) per engine per hour for the 12-cylinder engines.[7][18] The total output of these prime movers, some 97,020 kilowatts (130,110 hp), is converted to electricity, used in hotel power for operation of the lights, elevators, electronics, galleys, water treatment plant, and all of the other systems used on the operation of the vessel, as well as propulsion. Propulsion is provided by three 20,000-kilowatt (26,800 hp) Azipods, ABB’s brand of electric azimuth thrusters. These pods, suspended under the stern, contain electric motors driving 20-foot (6 m) propellers.[7] Because they are rotatable, no rudders are needed to steer the ship. Docking is assisted by four 5,500-kilowatt (7,380 hp) transverse bow thrusters.[1][18]

Additional power comes from solar panels fitted by BAM Energy Group, which provide energy for lighting in the promenade and central park areas. The installation cost US$750,000 and covers 1,950 square metres (21,000 sq ft) on deck 19.[19][20]

The ship carries 18 lifeboats that hold 370 people each, for a total of 6,660 people. Inflatable life rafts provide for additional passengers and crew.[21]

Facilities

The ship features a zip-line, an ice-skating rink, a surf simulator, an aquatic amphitheater, a moving bar, a casino,[22] a miniature golf course, multiple night clubs, several bars and lounges, a karaoke club, comedy club, five swimming pools, volleyball and basketball courts, youth zones, and nurseries for children.[23] Many of the ship’s interiors were extensively decorated by muralist Clarissa Parish.[24]

History

Oasis of the Seas at night at night

The vessel was ordered in February 2006 and designed under the name “Project Genesis”.[25] Her keel was laid down on 12 November 2007 by STX Europe Turku Shipyard, Finland.[3] The company announced that full funding for Oasis of the Seas was secured on 15 April 2009.[26]

The name Oasis of the Seas resulted from a competition held in May 2008.[27] The ship was formally named on 30 November 2009 during a charity sailing for Make-A-Wish Foundation. At this ceremony the ship was sponsored by seven “godmothers”, each representing one of the seven neighbourhoods on board. Her godmothers are Gloria Estefan, Michelle Kwan, Dara Torres, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Shawn Johnson, Jane Seymour and Daisy Fuentes.[28]

During the first float-out of the vessel the tugboats that were pulling the ship from its dock failed to control the ship, resulting in the port side of the ship hitting the dock. This resulted in some cosmetic damage and minor damage to the hull, which was repaired and did not affect the final delivery date of the vessel.[29]

The ship was completed and turned over to Royal Caribbean on 28 October 2009. Two days later, she departed Finland for the United States.[30] While exiting the Baltic Sea, the vessel passed underneath the Great Belt Fixed Link in Denmark on 31 October 2009 at 23:18 UTC.[31][32] The bridge has a clearance of 65 m (213 ft) above the water; Oasis normally has an air draft of 72 m (236 ft). The passage under the bridge was possible due to retraction of the telescoping funnels, and an additional 30 cm (12 in) was gained by the squat effect whereby vessels traveling at speed in a shallow channel will be drawn deeper into the water.[33] Approaching the bridge at 23 knots (43 km/h; 26 mph),[32] the ship passed under it with less than 60 centimetres (2 ft) of clearance.[31]

Proceeding through the English Channel, Oasis of the Seas stopped briefly in the Solent so that 300 shipyard workers who were on board doing finishing work could disembark, then left on the way to her intended home port of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.[34] The ship arrived there on 13 November 2009, where tropical plants were installed prior to some introductory trips and her maiden voyage on 5 December 2009.

Oasis of the Seas had a minor refit in winter 2011. She underwent a second drydock refit in October 2014.[35] During drydock the ship was modified by dividing the main dining room into three separate restaurants.[36][37]

On 1 April 2019, Oasis of the Seas was undergoing work at a dry dock in the Bahamas when two cranes collapsed onto the ship. Eight people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and extensive damage to the ship required it to relocate to Cádiz for repairs. The ship returned to service on 5 May, but three sailings were cancelled during its downtime.[38][39]

On 20 December 2019, Oasis of the Seas was almost struck by Carnival Legend while in port in Cozumel, Mexico. Carnival Legend was on the receiving end of a collision with Carnival Glory earlier that day.

Oasis of the Seas was scheduled to cruise the Mediterranean out of Barcelona in summer 2019 before undergoing a major drydock at the end of the season.[40] Oasis of the Seas then repositioned to her new homeport of Miami for the fall and winter 2019 seasons.[40] She was scheduled to move to Cape Liberty Cruise Port in May 2020.[41]

During the COVID-19 pandemic on cruise ships, the Miami Herald reported that 14 crew members had tested positive for COVID-19. At that time, the vessel had been at anchor near Port Miami since mid-March. The passengers had disembarked for flights to their home countries but the ship remained in the area.[42] By 10 April 2020, seven crew members had been taken to nearby hospitals within a week.[43] As of 4 May 2020, three crew members had died in various hospitals in South Florida.[44]

Allure of the Seas Vs Oasis of the Seas

Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas are both Royal Caribbean Oasis-class ships. If you’re considering a cruise on one of these ships, you might be wondering which is the best…

Whilst the two ships were originally very similar when they were launched in 2009 and 2010, Oasis of the Seas has since undergone an extensive $165 million refurbishment which has seen the addition of many new and exciting facilities.

Are Allure and Oasis of the Seas the same?

Allure and Oasis of the Seas are sister ships but they are not exactly the same. Allure of the Seas is 5 cm (2 inches) longer, but Oasis and has more facilities including water slides, the Ultimate Abyss dry slide and the Splashaway Bay water park.

Royal Amplification

The ‘Royal Amplified’ program aimed to refurbish ten of Royal Caribbean’s cruise ships over a four year period, adding innovative new features at a cost of more than $1 billion.

Oasis of the Seas amplification

Oasis of the Seas was refurbished in November 2019, with a whole host of features added, including the ten-storey Ultimate Abyss slide, a new Caribbean-style pool deck, The Perfect Storm trio of waterslides and some new bars and restaurants.

Allure of the Seas amplification

Allure of the Seas was set to be amplified in March 2020, but unfortunately, due to the global pause in cruising, the refurbishment was postponed until further notice.

Instead, the ship received only technical repairs to the propulsion system in May 2020.

As Royal Caribbean doesn’t now have the same budgets to work with as originally planned, it is not known whether Allure of the Seas will eventually be amplified or not. It certainly isn’t expected to happen before 2023 at the earliest.

The plan was for Allure of the Seas to receive the same upgraded features as Oasis of the Seas. If the refurbishment does eventually go ahead, we don’t know whether that will still be the case or whether the refurbishment plans will be adjusted in light of the current situation.

Differences between Allure and Oasis of the Seas

The main differences between these two sister cruise ships are due to the fact that Oasis of the Seas has been extensively refurbished and Allure of the Seas has not.

Here’s some more information about the new amenities that you’ll find on board Oasis of the Seas.

Enhanced Adventure Ocean

Oasis of the Seas now has a bigger and better kids’ club where children can choose their own adventures. The enhanced Adventure Ocean area has a kids’ theatre, a science lab and an impressive new teen area with its own outdoor deck.

Water slides

Oasis of the Seas has three waterslides – Cyclone, Typhoon and Supercell. Collectively, these are known as The Perfect Storm. In contrast, Allure of the Seas doesn’t yet have any water slides.

Kids’ water park

Oasis of the Seas benefits from the Splashaway Bay water park which has two giant tipping buckets, three small water slides and a selection of fountains and water cannons.

Allure of the Seas, however, still has the old H2O Zone water park. You can read more about the differences between these two water parks here.

New pool areas

The new pool areas on Oasis of the Seas are really nice, with a funky tropical theme and the addition of day beds, hammocks and cabanas. Here is where you’ll also find the new Lime & Coconut bar.

Escape room

Oasis of the Seas features an escape room game called Mission Control: Apollo 18. This is Royal Caribbean’s newest escape room game and its suitable for guests ages 12 and over.

The Ultimate Abyss

The tallest slide at sea has been added to Oasis of the Seas. Not for the faint-hearted, guests can slide down ten decks at a rate of nine miles per hour.

Facilities that are on both ships

Oasis of the Seas has a lot more features onboard, but Allure of the Seas may get these too in time, we just don’t know yet. Even without these new features, there’s still plenty to do on Allure of the Seas.

Features you’ll find across both Oasis and Allure include:

Zip line

Rock climbing wall

Arcade

Mini golf

Ice skating

Flow Rider surf simulators

Merry-go-round

Pools and whirlpools

Sports court

Table tennis

Casino

Both ships have cantilever whirlpools with sea views

Booking a cruise on Allure of the Seas?

If you decide to book a cruise on Allure of the Seas, you should base your decision on the features that the ship has right now, as there’s no guarantee that the amplification will go ahead.

If it does, it will be a nice bonus for you.

Of course, it’s important to consider the itineraries on offer with each ship too, as well as how easy it is for you to get to the port to start your cruise.

There’s still lots to enjoy on Allure of the Seas. I had a fantastic time when I cruised on this ship in 2013. We didn’t have time to do everything, even with seven nights on-board, so I can assure you that you won’t be short of activities to enjoy, even without the refurbishment.

Don’t Overpay For Your Royal Caribbean Cruise! Here’s how I get the lowest price when I book a cruise… 1. Compare prices from every travel agent in one place. 2. Choose a trusted travel agent with a best price guarantee. Please don’t book with any old company just because they have a cheap deal. I suggest that you find the best price and then take it to a trusted travel agent who will beat it as well as giving you the best service.

Oasis of the Seas
