Technology:
TRACOMP:
Light & stiff traction compression.
Extremely light Tracomp carbon fibre spokes works in traction and compression to provide a very high stiffness level in any circumstances.
– Under normal loads, wheel deflection is limited by the very high traction resistance of carbon fibres
– Under greater loads, where a normal wheel would flex more because of one of its spoke loosening, Tracomp spokes enter into compression and keep supporting the rim, preventing any further wheel deflection
GRIPLINK:
Grip and control
A front tyre, whether a clincher or a tubular, must fully liberate the wheels ability to hold the ground and control the bike. Therefore, GripLink tyres are optimized for front use, by offering a superior grip and extra puncture protection.
– The safest grip with great steering control: grippy tread compound and water evacuation tread pattern
– Hold the road in any situation: light and supple high density casing
– Reduced risk of flats: strong Kevlar anti-puncture breaker
FORE:
Stiffer and stronger
Instead of being drilled, the lower rim bridge is pushed up on the inside, then threaded to enable the spoke nipples to be directly screwed in it, leaving the upper rim bridge intact.- Rim is 4 times more resistant to fatigue stress
– 20% increase in the rim rigidity to maximize power transfer
FTS-L:
Force Transfer System Light
Reinforcement of key transmission components: the contact area between the pawl and the hub body is reinforced by 2 stainless steel inserts, which allows the use of a 100% aluminum hub body.
– Greater efficiency due to better transmission of efforts on the entire wheel
– Lightweight and strong hub design
POWERLINK:
Low rolling resistance:
A rear tyre, whether a clincher or a tubular, must fully liberate the wheels ability to transfer power and generate speed. Therefore, PowerLink tyres are optimized for rear wheel use, by minimizing the rolling resistance.
– Superior energy transfer, reduced rolling resistance and safe grip thanks to optimized tread pattern
– Improved drive: light and supple high density casing
– Higher durability and reduced risk of flats: nylon anti-puncture breaker
QRM+
Qualit de Roulements Mavic +
Our most demanding level. Those cartridge bearings are of course double sealed with C3 internal clearance, and toped with a micro-adjustability system.
– Tight tolerances for high rolling efficiency
– Quick adjustment according to performance goals: precision ´free´ adjustment for maximum fluidity, or perfect high precision setting for all-weather rides
EXALITH 2:
High braking performance:
The Mavic exclusive Exalith 2 technology for aluminum rims has been refined to provide a very high level of durability and braking performance in all weather conditions.
– Braking distance shortened by 18% in wet conditions, while keeping pads wear to normal level
– Exalith treatment penetrates the alloy to delay rim wear and maintain distinctive anthracite grey colour for thousands of kilometres
– New special black Mavic Exalith 2 brake pads to ensure quiet and high braking performance and longevity (delivered with the wheels)
SUP:
Stronger and smoother joint
Soud Usin Process. After bending, the rim joint is arc welded. The welded seam is then milled for a smooth finish.
– Extremely strong rim joint
– Eliminates shuddering when braking
– Superior wheel balance
ISM 4D:
Inter Spoke Milling 4 Dimensions
An exclusive Mavic patented concept, ISM 4D significantly reduces weight and inertia without compromising durability. Quicker accelerations, better handling and more resistance ; the right mix to make the most of any ride. The smooth profile also helps reducing aerodynamic drag
– 15% lighter rim, the lowest inertia for instant acceleration, better handling and faster climbing
– Variable rim thickness optimizes constraints management for more reliability
– Smoother rim profile offers better air flow which reduces drag for higher speed
ZICRAL:
Light, stiff and strong
A specific aluminum alloy that provides spokes with higher stiffness-to-weight ratio while being stronger.
– Lighter spokes for easier climbing
– Stiffer spokes for better energy transmission
– Stronger spokes for increased durability
MAXTAL:
Light and strong
Exclusive to Mavic, this specific aluminum alloy offers a higher strength to weight ratio than conventional 6106 alloy.
– 30% more resistant rims
– Lighter rims

Mavic Ksyrium Pro Exalith SL Wheelset 2017
Mavic Ksyrium Pro Exalith SL Wheelset 2017
With the Mavic Ksyrium Pro Exalith SL Wheelset 2017 it is clear to see why Mavic wheels are so highly thought of. A great choice for riders looking to get serious about their club or sportive riding or even racing, these wheels provide a great range of features at a superb price, with the added bonus of the supreme stopping power of the Exalith 2 braking track.
This exclusive braking technology consists of a chemical treatment of the aluminium alloy that slows down wear, notably at the brake track. It also shortens braking distance by 20% in dry and wet conditions and provides a stunning all black finish, included on the brake track, that will keep its colour for thousands of kilometres.
Mavic’s Maxtal alloy is the construction material of choice for these 26 millimetres deep rear and 24 millimetre front rims. This lightweight and resilient material dampens road vibrations while also maintaining a strong form that allows you to put the most power down through the pedals, making these wheels perfect for climbing or speedy flat routes.
An exclusive Mavic patented concept, ISM 4D not only significantly reduces weight and inertia without compromising durability, it also improves aerodynamics due to its new rim shape.
Mavic’s FTS-L freehub is a fast engaging hub and is built with a carbon body, aluminium flanges and sealed cartridge bearings for a superior level of rolling speed.
Mavic’s Pro Griplink and Powerlink tyres complement each other to provide a top-end level of performance. Griplink technology on the front allows for the optimal degree of control and responsiveness. Powerlink on the rear fully liberates the wheel’s ability to transfer power and generate speed.
Includes:
Front and rear Exalith brake pads
Multifunction adjustment wrench
BR601 quick releases
User guide
Tracomp ring tool
Yksion Pro GripLink 25 mm (front) & PowerLink 25 mm (rear) tyres
Ksyrium Pro Exalith
All the best features of the Ksyrium Pro with the added benefit of our exclusive Exalith rim surface treatment. This wheel system delivers incredible versatility and all-rounder capabilities plus stunning looks and braking performance.
Exalith is a special chemical treatment that penetrates deep within the aluminum rim material for multiple benefits. First, the rim is reinforced, notably at the brake track, so there’s very low wear over time. Braking power is greatly improved, reducing stopping distances by up to 20% compared to traditional aluminum rims, in both dry and wet conditions. Specific Exalith brake pads ensure quiet braking and limited wear. The rim has a stunning all-black finish that lasts for thousands of kilometers.
We use Fore drilling to keep the rim light and strong, plus Zicral spokes that are stiffer and lighter than traditional steel spokes. Isopulse lacing improves stability and stiffness under high loads, and a new wider rim (17mm internal width) features ISM 4D technology (Inter Spoke Milling) to further reduce weight to just 405g. Excess material is removed from the lower bridge and sidewalls, so the rim is super light but still strong.
Matching Yksion Pro tires, specifically designed for front and rear use, offer an ideal balance of efficiency, grip and light weight. Made with a supple 127 TPI casing, they weigh only 205g in 25mm. The Ksyrium Pro Exalith system is available with 23mm or 25mm tires.
Mavic Ksyrium Pro Exalith SL Wheelset 2016
Description
Mavic Wheelset :
The Ksyrium Pro Exalith SL is a lighter and stiffer version of Ksyrium Pro Exalith. It pushes weight-saving one step further, making it a high performance choice for any kind of ride. Like the Pro Exalith, this wheel features the same Fore technology and Zicral spokes that bring higher stiffness and strength at a very low weight.
Exalith treated
It also features the Exclusive Exalith technology, a chemical treatment of the aluminum alloy that slows down wear, notably at the brake track. It also shortens braking distance by 20% in dry and wet conditions, and provides a stunning all black finish, including on the brake track that will keep its colour for thousands of kilometers.
ISM4D and Tracomp technology
The rim uses ISM4D technology to keep weight and inertia very low, saving four watts in aerodynamics.
In addition, it uses our patented and unique Tracomp technology on the rear wheel. Tracomp stands for Traction/Compression. It was first introduced on the R-Sys wheel where we’ve been able to lower the wheel weight again by 10%, while increasing lateral stiffness by 30%.
So why does Tracomp make such a difference? Well a traditional wheel works with spokes that are only tensioned. The spoke tension provides the frontal and lateral stiffness and keeps the wheel components together. But under lateral loads, half of the spokes will see their tension increase, and the other half will see it lowering. When the load is very heavy, some spokes might completely lose their tension, which provokes a sudden loss of wheel stiffness, something that most cyclists have experienced at some point. The traditional way to avoid that is to increase the spoke tension, which results in poor fatigue resistance for both spokes and rims.
Tracomp overcomes this issue by allowing the spoke to work both in traction and compression. Under heavy loads, instead of losing their tension, Tracomp spokes will enter into compression and keep the wheel supported with a high lateral stiffness.
To achieve this, the spokes need to be:
– Round and hollow (tubes) so they won’t buckle when compressed
– Clamped on both ends by a nipple that is bonded to the spoke and directly threaded into the rim’s Fore drilling and a ring inside the hub that locks the spoke head and prevents the spokes from travelling inside their slots
– Carbon to provide the desired weight saving and extra stiffness during the tension phase as, carbon fibers don’t stretch as much as steel or aluminum alloy
Also, because these spokes don’t suffer loss of tension, the overall wheel spokes’ tension can be lower, which means the wheel components last longer.
The Tracomp carbon spokes also dampen road vibration and since they allow for a very wide wheel dish, the vertical compliance of the wheel adds comfort too.
The result is a superlight 1355g wheelset that offers super high lateral stiffness and great comfort.
Matching Yksion Pro tyres
The Ksyrium Pro SL comes with our Yksion Pro tyres which offers a great balance of grip, rolling resistance and a low weight of only 205g in 25mm thanks to the supple 127 TPI casing, Kevlar beads and our well-balanced rubber compound.
The front wheel comes with the Griplink version that offers a specific tread pattern which helps evacuate water when cornering to increase confidence and speed in difficult conditions. It also offers very strong Kevlar puncture protection to improve safety.
The rear wheel comes with the Powerlink version, which uses a more supple nylon puncture protection instead of Kevlar to lower rolling resistance. We’ve also optimized the tread pattern so pressure on the ground is reduced. This reduces rolling resistance and increases speed even further, while also improving water evacuation from the center to increase traction and efficiency in wet conditions.

Mavic Ksyrium Pro Exalith SL 2016 Road Wheelset
After the first few weeks of use, the whole bike will settle down. As a result, the gears may need tweaking, some nuts and bolts may need tightening and you may well need to check the adjustment of the saddle and handlebars.
CABLE STRETCH
Gears
Brakes
DISC BRAKES
CRANKS
HEADSET
SADDLE
STEM
SUSPENSION FORKS
Cable stretch tends to occur shortly after a new bike has been ridden a few times. A rear derailleur that we have tuned to hit every gear, nicely and quietly, may now not be making each shift causing a sensation and sound of “being in between gears”. Generally you may have to shift up, or shift down a couple times to quiet it down and settle the derailleur into a “happy gear”. A front derailleur may no longer want to shift all the way onto the big ring or will require a much firmer push to get it there. It is advisable to get the cable tension adjusted as soon as this happens either by your local bike shop. This tune up is considered a necessary part of any bicycles maintenance schedule and as such should not be ignored.Your brakes will also be affected by cable stretch (provided of course that they are NOT hydraulic in which case this does not apply). The symptom here is that they usually start to feel quite loose. i.e. you have to pull the lever much further back or harder in order to get the same stopping power you once had. This is partly why new bikes come with a first free service. If your brakes start feeling a little spongy after a few weeks, you can adjust them at the barrel or the clamp or ask a mechanic at your local bike shop to do it for you.New disc brakes won’t deliver their full power until the rotor and pads have bedded in.SRAM has a really good guide for bedding in disc brakes:“Accelerate the bike to a moderate speed and then firmly applying the brakes until you are at walking speed. Repeat this process 20 times. Then accelerate the bike to a faster speed and apply the brakes until you are at walking speed. Repeat this process ten times. It’s important that during this process you never come to a complete stop or lock up the wheels at any point.”Doing this process should drastically improve the performance of your brakes and prepare them for many happy rides.Check the cranks and crank bolts or nut for tightness; grab a crank arm in each hand and try to wiggle them to check for looseness. If there is play in the cranks, the nuts or bolts may need to be tightened. Cranks should be checked after every ride for the first week.A loose headset can be diagnosed by turning the front wheel to point left or right, holding the front brake on, and then rocking the bike backwards and forwards. Hold your fingers between the stem and the frame. Any movement indicates that you need to tighten the headset.Check your seat post is not loose and that you have not exceeded the limit marked on the seat post. Once you have checked these, use an allen key to tighten the seat post clamp. Check the seat is secure by giving it another check once you have finished.Check that your front wheel and stem do not move independently, and that your handlebar clamp bolts are tight. Perform this check by standing in front of the bike, holding the front wheel between your knees, and twisting the handlebars. You can prevent any movement by tightening the stem bolts and the handlebar clamp with an allen key.Keeping your mountain bike’s suspension maintained is one of the best ways to ensure you’re getting all the performance you can out of your bike. Plus, giving your fork and shock a few seconds of attention here and there can prevent costly repairs or even replacements.Dirt is the number one enemy of suspension. After every ride make sure to wipe the seal area and stanchions of your fork and shock. Wipe in a horizontal motion, not vertical as you don’t want to force any debris towards the seals.Every few rides double check that your suspension sag is correct, as well as your rebound and compression adjustments. If something has changed, or the adjustments aren’t working as before, some maintenance is likely due.
