Dying Light 2: Stay Human is a survival horror role-playing game. It was developed by Techland and is the second (and latest) game in the Dying Light series. Set 20 years after the first opus, this new installment has a greater emphasis on the narrative, without neglecting the action.
Plot
After the virus escaped from the city of Harran in the first installment of the series, the military dropped chemicals to destroy it – unfortunately, this resulted in contaminating the water, the soils, and many people, transforming them into blood-thirsty, half-alive monsters. In consequence, a new civilization was created, with survivors living on rooftops and leaving the monsters in the streets. People fight over resources and laws are broken. In this installment, players meet Aiden Caldwell after the chemical event who will go down and face the infected in a search for his long-lost sister Mia. Together with other children, they were subjects of bizarre medical research until the age of 5 when Aiden got rescued by soldiers. However, Mia didn’t get that lucky. The main protagonist will meet a group called The Nightrunners who could help him – or will they?
Gameplay
Dying Light 2 is a survival horror role-playing game that is set in an open-world. Because of the medical experiments, the protagonist has amazing parkour skills that make navigating through the city easier. The player can use different fractions of survivors in order to reach their goal, however, non-playable characters (NPCs) have complex personalities and Aiden’s decisions are crucial. Depending on whether he chooses to help them or attack NPCs, the city will be reshaped and the course of the narrative will change. As the title suggests, light is an important feature because hoards of monsters start roaming at night – they are sensitive to the sun, but also to light in general. This means that monsters nests are left rather unprotected when the sun comes down. This pushes players to exploit the game’s verticality.

Weapons : Using weapons in Dying Light 2 is more than useful. Techland made sure to provide players with a more satisfying feedback during combats, making the experience more fun.
Approach : Even though Aiden has some crazy acrobatic skills, this may not be enough. Players will have to elaborate wisely their strategy and use stealth techniques and develop their fighting skills . Dying Light 2 encourages players to find the personal style that suits them best.
Craft : Creating your own weapons is another feature that is at the heart of the game and it is also possible to adapt it to your personal approach.

‘Dying Light 2’ fans demand refunds after last minute inclusion of Denuvo
Fans have taken to social media to demand their money back from Techland after the last-minute reveal that Dying Light 2: Stay Human will use Denuvo, the controversial Anti Tamper DRM technology.
The inclusion of Denuvo was quietly revealed yesterday (February 1) via a back-end Steam update.
“Dying Light 2: Stay Human was in development for seven years,” a Techland representative wrote on the Steam forums.

“Throughout that period, over fifteen hundred people invested their time and talent into making the game. To protect the efforts of the whole team from piracy we suffered when we released Dying Light 1, we’ve included the Denuvo system, at least for the launch period. It’s a solution used widely for AAA games nowadays.”
They continued: “Being gamers ourselves, we understand your concerns, and we want to ensure that it will not impact your gaming experience. We continue putting extra resources into testing the game, and at this stage, we do not see any noticeable impact on the performance. We’ll be actively reviewing feedback during the game’s launch. Do not hesitate to share yours with us too.”

Denuvo has been blamed for poor performance on a variety of games including Tomb Raider and Doom while late last year, an issue with the Denuvo servers saw the likes of Planet Zoo, Football Manager 2022, and Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy unplayable.
“Denuvo just got confirmed for Dying Light 2 and now I’m suddenly not looking forward to it so much,” said one fan while another wrote: “Cancelling my pre order because of the sneakiness denuvo crap. How disappointing.”
“Yo Dying Light 2, if you can add Denuvo two days before launch, you can remove it two days before launch. It’s not too late to fix this mistake. I hope you refund pre-orders if you keep it in but really you should not even consider keeping it in,” wrote Mendo before explaining that Denuvo is “anti piracy software that they deliberately hid from the game for game reviews/ people who pre-ordered. It heavily impacts performance and does absolutely nothing positive for the player who purchased the game.”

Dying Light 2 offers plenty of aspects that will be comfortingly familiar to those who played the original game. These include the parkour-style movement, melee-based combat, open-world, and day-night cycle. Like its predecessor, you are thrust into a post-apocalyptic world infested with zombies. Your goal is to stay alive and save your fellow humans. Be careful, however, as everything you do has consequences. Although, the story takes place twenty years after the first game.
There will also be a new protagonist, who goes by the name of Aiden Caldwell. Like in the game’s predecessor, Aiden will be equipped with various parkour skills. He can perform actions, such as climbing skills, leaping off from edges, sliding, and wall running. He also has various tools at his disposal, including a grappling hook and a paraglider. All of this can help him traverse the city, which is four times bigger than the original game.
As with its predecessor, the combat will be mostly melee-based, with the majority of fighting using melee weapons. These weapons can be upgraded with different blueprints and components. Note, however, that the weapons can have a limited lifespan. They will also degrade as the players use them in combat. Thankfully, though, there will be long-range weapons, such as crossbows, shotguns, and spears players can use as well.
Extra level of complexity
While Dying Light 2 continued everything fans have come to love about the first game. This time around, the developers added an extra level of complexity to the blueprint called choices and consequences. Unlike the usual gameplay choices, however, your choices do not only alter the storylines, but the world itself. The consequences are far-reaching, with you being able to bring prosperity to a faction while completely destroying another settlement.
Another thing that the game offers is a growing web of missions and side-quests, which involves various players. With such, the already long play-through is lengthened even more. It also made the narrative even more complex compared to that of its predecessor. However, while it brings more challenges, this huge number of side-missions may not please those who like everything to be cut and dried.
Finally, players will be happy to know that Dying Light 2 will also feature a four-player co-op, which you can play straight through to the end. The co-op is intuitive, foregoing some of the hassles that come with progressing in someone’s lobby. Anyone who joins someone’s team will keep their progressions and items. Furthermore, the co-op is also tied to the narrative choices. Whenever a choice comes up during a session, every player has the chance to vote. Still, the host gets the final say.
Bigger and better
Overall, Dying Light 2 has taken the zombie survival franchise to a greater height. Although it follows the same formula as its predecessor, it has an even more pleasingly open-world feel. The storyline is also made more complex with the tantalizing prospect of your choices influencing the narrative and your surroundings. Finally, it is not an on-rails game, unlike many linear and gun-based zombie titles.
