The Polar Vantage now has general availability. There do not seem to be widespread discount yet in the EU. I’ve included some deals below but you will find a better deal at New Running Gear and Power Meter City. New Running Gear (NRG), below, were also bundling in GBP50 of running freebies.

I just had the first test run on cross country skis with the V800 and Vantage V together up here in Orsa Grönklitt.
The Polar V800 is arguably one of the most precise GPS watches out there. So I was a bit hesitant to buy a Vantage V since I have read so much about the reporting of poor GPS tracking. Yet, my beloved V800 is kind of wearing out on the battery side of things. Therefore I wanted to get the newer model also due to the powerful new features of this watch.
Distance (GPS): I did a 10.6 km cross country skate skiing pass and repeated double poling on classic skies. There was a 0.18% (20 meter) difference in the GPS reading between the Vantage V (on Glonass) and the V800 on both accounts. The track goes through forest and open forest roads. In both cases the V800 read 20 meter longer than the Vantage V.
The freestyle track measured:
10.63 km on the V800
10.61 on the Vantage V
The classic track measured:
10.59 km on the V800
10.58 on the Vantage V
I certainly don’t see this cutting around corners and big differences that others see. I admit this is a first test run in nature. I have not yet tested in the cityscape. The Vantage V is on update 4.1.1.

Heart rate: As expected the heart rate curve of both watches connected to the same H7 strap are identical. The heart rate graph is slightly off for the Vantage on the freestyle run (further down). I suppose this is due to a spike (both watches connected to the same heart rate strap).

Speed readings: Furthermore the speed curve and percentages are also very similar. The Vantage V recorded a 1.1 km/h higher max. speed on the classic run. On the freestyle run the difference in recorded max. speed was 0.3 km/h.

Barometric readings: It seems actually that the altitude numbers from the barometric readings are more accurate on the Vantage V. Since I ended the same place that I started the reading should be the same for ascent and descent. This is true for the Vantage but differs by 5 meters for the V800.
It is the same picture for the freestyle run but here the difference of the V800 is 10 m.

What is more interesting about the barometric reading is that on the classic run the average altitude was as follows:
Vantage V: avg.: 479.3m (high: 495.5m; low.: 462.5m) diff.: 33m.
V800: avg.: 469.1m (high: 485.7m; low: 451.7m) diff.: 34m.
On the skate run the readings is as follows:
Vantage V: avg.: 462.3m (high: 479.2m; low: 444.1m) diff.: 35,1m.
V800: avg.: 471.1m (high: 487.8m; low: 454.8m) diff.: 33m.
It appears like the V800 is averaging more close to itself. However the Vantage V is actually more true to the topographic altitude on the high point which is 495 m above sea level. The V800 is more close on the lowest point which according to the topographic maps is 450 m above sea level.
I suppose one can sit and nerd through the entire ten kilometres and compare each yard to the topographic map on the topocoding website but as I am not that persistent, I tend to find another meaningful value. That is the difference between the highest measured point and the lowest measured point. Here both watches comes within 2 meters.
That taken with the similarity of the topographic curves from polar flow is for me close enough to satisfy my needs.
Preliminary conclusion: It was with a great deal of hesitation that I invested in the Polar Vantage V due to the multitude of reviews on the internet that report inconsistent GPS readings as well of a lack of a number of features that have been standard in the V800. I am happy to report that my first test ride with the V800 and Vantage V side by side did not disappoint me. The Vantage V is fully as good as the V800 in the forest ski tracks of Orsa Grönklitt.
The Vantage V did show a larger discrepancy between barometric readings between the classic and skate run. However the altitude difference between highest and lowest points of the readings falls within 2 meters between the watches. Also the Vantage V reads 70/70 80/80 on ascent/descent while the V800 reads 90/95 and 90/100. The ascent and descent readings on the track should be exactly the same as the starting and ending point was the same on a roundabout track.
The heart rate readings are the same. Note that I did not test the wrist heart rate of the Vantage V. I had both watches connected to the same Polar H7 heart rate strap.
So my first conclusion is that if you are looking for an update to your V800 or any other GPS watch then the Polar Vantage V is a great competitive watch for the high end consumer and pro athlete.
One clear advantage of the new model is the battery !
Another one of the new features of the Vantage V is the Training Load Pro. I can see that I have been training on the higher end the past week as I am getting ready for the Craft Ski Marathon the 5th of January. Time to take it easy and train light for the rest of the week.
Disclaimer: I have not yet tested the Vantage V in the city scape. I plan to do this when I get back home to Copenhagen.

Egy-két dologban megpróbálok segíteni, hogy könnyebb legyen dönteni. Jómagam 2014-óta használom a Polar V800-ast non-stop rajtam van. Vannak referencia futások, úszómedencék, kimért futó távok (pl. 400-as atlétika pálya) és emelkedők (HHH, Nagy-kevély) aminek a magassága nem változik sokat. Ezeket fogom referenciaként használni az adatok összehasonlításánál ?!
Azt az elején érdemes tisztázni, hogy egyik sem referencia óra, semmilyen téren. Sem a pulzus mérés, sem a kinyerhető egyéb adatok nem standardok. Az hogy melyik mér pontosan azt csak kizárólag akkor tudnánk eldönteni ha ezekkel egyidőben rajtunk lenne egy orvosi 12 pontos elvezetésű EKG. Ez kivitelezhetetlen. Másodsorban inkább a megjelenés és a tudás dominál mindenkinél, senki sem analizálja a pulzusgörbét ilyen szinten. HRV-hez meg sokan nem is tudnak hozzászólni.
Tehát nem vagyunk orvosok és ne is akarjunk ilyen szinten belemenni és okoskodni melyik óra pontosabb. Egyszerűen és észszerűen egymás mellé rakjuk őket és mindenki eldönti akar-e váltani ? Tehát először a kinézet legyen az első összehasonlítási szempont.

Két forma kerek és a szögletes. Szögletes formát nagyon megszoktam, de minden gyártó (kivéve a Apple) efelé halad és ezt preferálják (Garmin, Suunto). Amikor megláttam akkor nagyon nem tudta befogadni a szemem, hiszen mást láttam mint amit megszoktam, de csak ennyi. Megszokás kérdése az egész.
Aztán amikor több napja használtam és felvettem a V800-ast egy R_R mérésre akkor meg a V800-as volt furcsa, kicsit elmaradott a kijelzője. Színes kijelző nagyon szép, de kicsit lehetne erősebb fénye. Gondolom ezzel próbálnak az akkuidőt növelni ?! Hiszen 30 órás üzemidőt garantálnak folyamatos gps vétel mellett.

Első körben elvittem mindkét órát futni, kocogni. Természetesen nem külön-külön hanem egyik kezemen a Polar Vanatage M másik kezemen a Polar V800+H10-es pulzusmérő pánt. Megpróbáltam egy egyenletes tempóra ráállni, hogy ne legyen nagy amplitúdó a pulzusgörbéken. Majd ezeket az adatokat összehasonlítottam.
