Yamaha’s Ténéré 700 is an excellent foray into the middleweight ADV world. Associate Editor Neil Wyenn owns a 2021 model, and has spent the last year adding and improving various aspects of his bike. Some add-ons are more vital others, and he lets us into his secrets for getting the most out of the Yamaha Ténéré. In our second segment, I chat with Court Rand of Freedom Bike Rental in Ecuador. It was approaching ten years ago that Associate Editor Jess McKinley did their High Andes and Deep Amazon Tour, and ever since reading his story, I’ve always wanted to go myself. Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa
Bought my ’19 Triumph Speed Triple S with an OEM version of the Pirelli Supercorsas. Dry grip was fine to excellent. Mind you as very high performance street/track tires there is minimal siping making wet weather riding a bit tenuous. Also note that tread depth on a new Supercorsa is roughly half what it would be on an average sport touring tire. In combination with the sticky compound and nearly solid racing slick contact patch when cornering they grip quite well, just not in the wet and especially not on painted road striping!! I was actually surprised to get 2700 miles out of my rear and the front still has prehaps another 800 mi in it, but I was breaking the bike in on the 1st 1200 miles. Estimated mileage for my style of riding for a rear would be 2400 mi and perhaps 3000 out of a front. Will be trying a dual compound sport tire next – ie. Michelin Pilot Powers or perhaps Dunlop RoadSmart 3’s

High modulus fiber carcass offers a lower deformation ratio and makes the entire structure stiffer to allow a better synergy between compounds and tire carcass. Single Element Tread Pattern permits a 24% larger slick shoulder area (vs. previous Diablo Supercorsa), increasing contact area and grip and wear regularity. New compounds offer great balance of mileage and grip in an ultra-high-performance product. Rear tire uses Pirelli’s patented EPT (enhanced patch technology) matched with a tri-zone compound that helps optimize the contact patch for improved grip and handling.
